Contravene was an American Peace-Punk-Project. Even though there was 'a lot of negativity' in their lyrics (since most of them were about problems and concerns that affect most of us on earth on some level) they hoped that becoming aware of these subjects allowed people to make changes in their own lives to help improve conditions for everyone, to increase solidarity among one another and to make the world a better place. You wouldn't expect such a catching sound of such a rather small set of instruments. A duo who have been around quite a while and yet remained rather extraordinary, thus there aren't that many bands around with Set consist of a Cello and Drums - No Singer, Guitarist or simular thing that make up a conventional band constilation. At least i haven't heart anything comparable to them yet. In particular live, their music is a very experience, which can't be captured by any recording. Earlier releases featured a female vocalist. 1905 was a Punk band from Washington, DC that started in 2000, played a few shows, had a line-up change in the summer of 2001 (adding a new bass player to the mix), toured extensively throughout the U.S. and the broke up in 2006. The lyrics address the politics of our everyday lives and how the individual plays an important part in the greater scheme of things. These lyrics are conveyed through female and male vocals.
